Szodoma és Gomorra felemelkedése/ The rise of Sodoma and Gomorrah

Első találkozásom a Therionnal véletlen történt. Testvérem beállított egy cd-vel, hogy valami metál van rajta. Az osztálytársáé, de neki nem kell, nekem meg biztos tetszeni fog. És tényleg. Az album címe Deggial volt, és a kezdeti értetlenséget (ez most metál, vagy opera, vagy mi?) rajongás váltotta fel. No nem a csapat, hanem a zene iránt. Az első “személyes” találkozás 2001-ben történt, Budapesten a Petőfi Csarnokban:

A bordó pólós fiatalember az angolhangom (Dani), mögötte pedig az én fél arcom látható.

Teltek múltak az évek, koncertek jöttek-mentek, albumok is akadtak szép számmal, és az utolsó album kivételével mindegyik 10 pontot kapott a képzeletbeli 10 pontos skálámon. És ezzel elérkeztün az úr 2007. és a Therion 20. évéhez. Mikor megtudtuk, hogy hozzánk is ellátogatnak, nem volt kérdéses: ott a helyünk. Az előző Tarjás esetből okulva már eleve későn érkeztünk. Le is maradtunk az első néhány dalról. Elég bizarr színpadkép fogadott minket: két oldalt két leláncolt, szarvas és bika maszkos leányzó állt, a színpad hátterét egy templomot ábrázoló molinó adta, a billentyűs úgy nézett ki mint egy sátánista Tuck barát, az énekesnő mint egy(gyönyörű) nőstényördög, a két férfi énekes pedig mint egy-egy barbár. A zenekar többi tagja a megszokott formáját hozta, így legalább biztosak voltunk benne, hogy jó helyen járunk. A zenekar hatalmas színpadi showt mutatott be:volt lázadás, kalodába zárás, szívhez szóló szerelmi dráma, és még maga Pán is megjelent. A legnagyobb meglepetét számomra az okozta, mikor az énekes szünetet jelentett, be illetve azt, hogy a szünet után kedvenc albumomat (Theli) teljes egészében előadják!!! Nagyon jó volt a hangulat, néhány dalban a régi énekesek közül ketten is meg-megjelentek.

My first encounter with Therion happened accidentaly when on one day my brother gave me a borrowed cd. It belonged to one of his classmates, and thought that i will like it. And he was right. It was Deggial, and at first i listened it with some incomprehension. Later that incomprehension – if it was metal or opera or what – gave place to adoration. The first “personal” encounter happened in 2001 in Budapest, Petofi Hall. (The above picture was taken on that gig, and its peculiarity is that it can be found on the Therion web page ever since.)
The young man in that claret colored t-shirt is my english voice (Dani) (That is brown! And its peculiarity is that it can be found somewhere in my warderobe ever since. Ok, it no longer fits me, but life is like that, isn’t it?) Behind him, half of my face can be seen.

Years passed, so did gigs and releases, and with the exception of the last one, all the Therion albums got 10 on my imaginary 10 point scale.

And with that, we have arrived to the Lord’s 2007th and Therion’s 20th year. When we heard that they will give a gig here celebrating the occasion there were no arguments about whether we shall go or not.

Being edified by the Tarja gig we were a bit late, maybe a bit too late and missed the first few songs. The stage showed a rather bizarre image, with chained down ladies on both ends, wearing masks of a bull and a hind, a backdrop that imitated the interior of a temple, a keyboardist who looked like a satan worshiper friar Tuck, a  vocalist who looked like a beautiful female devil and male singers who looked like two barbarians (Actually, I think only one of them. The other one was quite well dressed). The other members looked like they usually do.

We were presented with a great show, including the singer’s locking into stocks, heart touching love drama, riot and Pan himself was there too (Have you forgotten the belly dancer! Where did you put your eyes? )

The biggest surprise for me was when the band took a break, saying that after that they would perform the whole Theli album!!

Former members (singers) stepped up too, and the atmosphere couldn’t be better. It was great.

The first video shows the song “Therise of Sodoma and Gomorrah” performed with a classical orchestra, while the second one shows it as it was performed on the gig. The fourth one is “The Birth of Venus Illegitima”, while the fourth is “The Wisdom and The Cage”.

And our question for today is: Messah Marcolin (a guest of the tour) were the singer of several bands. Name one of them.
